Bob Tyler has been working in the chemical dependence recovery profession since 1990. After beginning his personal recovery from alcohol and drug addiction in December of 1988, he completed the Alcohol and Studies Program at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). He then worked as a Counselor at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica until 1997 when he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at LMU. He served as Program Director at Life Change Residential Treatment Center for two years, followed by 14 years at Twin Town Treatment Centers where he served as Director of Operations and Clinical Services managing their six Intensive Outpatient Treatment programs – each serving adults and adolescents.   He left there in 2013 to pursue his passion of helping people get sober who can’t afford rehab founding STAT Sobriety Services, a 501(c)(3), non-profit.

Bob served for fourteen years on the Board of Directors of the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC), chaired its Quality Assurance and Third Party/Managed Care Committees for eight of those years, and served as its President for two years ending in January 2009. He then served as Treasurer of the California Foundation for the Advancement of Addiction Professionals (CFAAP) from 2011 – 2014, and in 2015 was a founding board member for the California Consortium for the Advancement of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP). Bob also serves on numerous Advisory Boards for Alcohol and Drug Studies Programs and is on faculty at LMU Extension teaching Case Management and Ethics in their Alcohol and Drug Studies program.

Along with serving as Board President of STAT Sobriety Services, Bob currently serves as Compliance Officer for Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse (L.A. CADA), is owner of Bob Tyler Recovery Services (consulting, addiction private practice, public speaking/training), and Humble House Publishing. He authored the EVVY award-winning book, “Enough Already! A Guide to Recovery from Alcohol” and Drug Addiction” (2005) to help people get sober who can’t afford formal rehab. The book is also currently being utilized as a textbook in numerous Alcohol and Drug Studies Programs, including: Intercoast Colleges (5 campuses) and Los Angeles Institute for Alcohol and Drug Counseling. It is also being utilized as a treatment resource in treatment and detox centers across the country.

In 2011, Bob produced a video of his popular talk, “Craving and Relapse”, which is based on Chapter 5 of his book and is being utilized in over 1,000 alcohol and drug treatment programs across the U.S. He also produced a series of 4 DVD’s based on Chapter 7 of the book entitled, Coping with Emotions: 1) Shame2) Building Self-Esteem; 3) Anger; and 4) Grief (with bonus footage on Fear: Turning it Over). His most recent video is Ingredients for Recovery released last year which could also be called “Recovery 101″ as it clearly demonstrates how to get started in recovery.
