Enough Already: Learn about Recovery from Drug and Alcohol Addiction

Enough Already!: A Guide to Recovery from Alcohol and Drug Addiction was written for those who suffer from alcohol and drug addiction.  It would also be helpful for those who think they may have a problem.  It is an easy read that teaches in detail what to do to get and stay sober.  Here is a breakdown of the main recovery principles the reader will learn about:

    • The disease model of alcohol / drug addiction
    • Time tested tools of alchohol and drug recovery
    • Clear instruction on how to get started in recovery.  (A “Sobriety Checklist” can be found at the end of Chapter 2 to help organize and track progress.)
    • Relapse prevention tools
    • The 12 Steps of AA and other 12 Step programs
    • Coping skills to deal with difficult emotions that often lead to relapse
    • A final inspiring chapter called: “The Miracle.”

Bob Tyler draws upon 18 years of sobriety (since starting drug addiction treatment and using 12 Step programs to maintain recovery), and 16 years working in alcohol / drug treatment programs (at the time of the first printing of the book).  This prepares him to present the message in this book drawing from personal and professional perspectives.  Therefore, the reader learns the principles of sobriety and how to apply them in daily living through Bob’s candid self-disclosure – a unique quality of this book.

Very often, when alcoholics and drug addicts reach out for help by calling drug treatment centers, they are challenged by the high cost of such treatment.  If they have poor insurance coverage or cannot afford it, they are referred to county-funded programs.  Such programs typically have month long waiting lists.  The regret Bob experiences when making such “empty” referrals is the drive behind this book.  His hope is that people can refer alcoholics and addicts to Enough Already! knowing they are providing a resource they can use right away.   Bob’s vision is that anyone who wants help and cannot access treatment for any reason, can receive his message and get their lives back.

Enough Already! is also currently being utilized as a textbook in the following Alcohol and Drug Studies Programs:

  • InterCoast Colleges (eight campuses)
  • Loyola Marymount University (LMU) Extension
  • U.S. Navy – San Diego Campus
  • University of California at San Diego (UCSD)
  • L. A. Pierce College
  • L.A. Southwest College
  • L.A. Training Institute for Alcohol & Drug Counselors
  • Centaur University
  • Career Colleges of America.

It is also being utilized as a treatment resource at multiple drug treatment programs for patients struggling with specific areas of recovery.

Enough Already! is an excellent resource for the addict’s family members who do not understand addiction and recovery.  In fact, several interventionists have the family read the book prior to going through with the intervention.  It will help family members to understand what they are dealing with and to discover what recovery from addiction looks like.

Finally, Enough Already! is an excellent adjunct to drug treatment. It is also ideal for building a program of recovery in the community while treatment intensity is being weaned down.
